New Season

04 Aug 2016

As the Autumn programme falls into place, it's time to give you a taster of what's coming soon at Stockport Photographic Society.

There are the usual Compex competitions, where members try out their latest prints and digital images, in four competition evenings spread over the year, with the grand final in December. Stockport will also be hosting round one of the Cheadle Alliance inter-club competitions, with Hyde, Romiley and Bramhall.

As well as the customary "show and tell" meeting at the start of the season, where people bring new images along to show what they've been working on over the summer break, incoming president, Tim McAndrew, will be introducing a new challenge: Photo Critique.

Hopefully, we'll be out and about, taking photos, and later comparing angles and techniques. We're still working on the locations.

There will be a selection of visiting speakers from other clubs in the region. Two are sequels to previous presentations: Iceland in Summer, and Warrington Magic Lantern Slides 2. And one is a 'Retrospective', described as "An Evening of Chat, Tips and Fun".

SPS alumni Adrian McGarry returns to enlighten us with his fabulous forays into Mobile Phone Photography, as the best camera is the one you have with you! I will also be blackmailing current members into giving presentations and workshops on their pet subjects, including veteran and exhibitor Paul Webster.

If you've never been before, please come along! There's no obligation to join straight away. See what we get up to first. Someone will be more than happy to help you get the most from the society.
